A few months ago Android-x86 launched the Lollipop 5 version of Android for PC, which is very attractive and dashes on all low-end as well as high-end PCs and laptops. I only had the above sin if I chose the option to load the OS immediately after the install instead of choosing the reboot option.
Yes, install the GRUB boot loader to the USB stick. After installation you will got an option at boot to select Windows or Android.

That is, all data will lose after power off. But it has been improved to save data to fat32 or ntfs since 2010. The installer will ask to create a data.
